Job Description:

The Varietal is a wine importer, distributor, and broker specializing in family-owned, boutique wineries that produce wines unique to their area of origin. We represent producers that come from all over the globe. The heart of our collection represents California, Spain, South America, South Africa, Austria, and Germany, with a touch of Oregon, Washington, and France. Our company is based in Oakland, CA with a strong presence in the Bay Area, Sacramento, Sierra Foothills, and Tahoe markets. Founded in 2005 by a husband and wife team (two winemakers), the Varietal is a young company experiencing successful growth. We are fueled by passion, energy, and the love for what we do. We are currently searching for one fulltime, qualified sales representative for the SF peninsula and south bay market.

Applicants MUST have experience in wine distribution sales in the region in order to be considered.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Service and build sales in existing accounts.
• Build/open new account base. Must be comfortable cold-calling.
• Provide outstanding customer service (this is a must).
• Build and promote our company and wine brands.
• Plan, establish and execute sales goals/targets. Periodically report on sales progress. Performance will be measured and evaluated against established goals.
• Provide timely responses to customer and company communication.
• Attend wine trainings, winery visits, trade tastings, and other educational events.
• Work with winery and/or import representatives in the market.
• Attend sales and other company meetings as required.


QUALIFICATIONS:
• Fine wine knowledge is a must and should be demonstrated.
• Fine wine sales experience in the SF peninsula and South Bay market.
• Persuasive presentation skills. Comfortable presenting wines to buyers.
• Detailed oriented.
• Self-motivated, driven, passionate, and enthusiastic.
• Able to work independently with little supervision.
• Understands the importance of customer service and is dedicated to providing the best experiences for our customers. This will be assessed by customer references.
• Able to develop and build relationships.
• Must be able to lift a case of wine.
• Valid California driver’s license with possession of a personal vehicle. Position may require extensive driving.

Salary Information: Commission-based.
