Logistics is the management of the flow of goods, information and other resources, between the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet the requirements of consumers. Logistics involves the integration of information, transportation, inventory, warehousing, material-handling and packaging.
1. Wine Consolidators: Provide consolidation and transportation services. Trucks are dispatched to warehouses and wineries to pick up orders, build loads and ship via truck, LTL or FTL or intermodal.
2. Wine Warehousing (case goods): Companies that provide storage and handling, and may also provide fulfillment services (i.e., shipping, packing, inventory control, software solutions, customer service).
3. Wine Hauling: Transportation companies that pick up, deliver large amounts of bottled wine.
4. Delivery Companies: Smaller transport services that deliver mostly to hotels and restaurants.
5. Third Party Logistics Providers (3PLs): Store wine for direct to consumer shipments; pick, pack and ship via FedEx or other common carriers. May include compliance software services.
6. Common Carriers: Shippers of choice for 3PLs and wineries handling direct-to-consumer sales.
